Kit and Kaboodle

Experience the entertainment, excitement and power of drums in the hands (and feet) of Australia’s master drummer David Jones.

In this breath-taking solo performance, David plays with rhythm to the max, and also reveals the astonishing spectrum of melody that is contained within his setup: two drumkits, gongs, kalimba, percussion, and the soothing and healing tomes of Tibetan and Japanese signing bowls.

A show for the whole family.

      Return home

2002 OCTOBER
INDIA: I returned from India (twice in one year!) on 2 November. I attended the International Peace of Mind Retreat, and took the Tibetan Bowls to make some beautiful music for the meditations. Picked up an amazing drone instrument in Mumbai.
NEW ALBUM: I have been blissing out in the studio working on a new album with all my closest improvising friends. There are different guests on each track, all playing with themes of Love (I think romantic love is well and truly covered in the pop world, so the feelings we're getting into are more the divine and transcendent forms of love). Guests include Brian Brown, James Morrison, David Hirschfelder, Fiona Burnett, Mark Domoney, Christine Sullivan, Carmen Warrington, Steve Sedergreen, Mal Sedergreen, Michael Conolan, Bob Sedergreen and Evri Evripidou. I'll be mixing in a few months so watch this space in the new year for a release date and launch concerts.
JAPAN: The connection I have with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa is very strong these days. So much so that I am back to Kanazawa in December 2002 to enjoy the honour of wonderful concerts and events in one of my favourite parts of the world. It's a rare and special thing for a drumkit player to play in amongst the dynamics and beauty of a world class orchestra.

2002 JULY

I am very grateful and to announce that I have been awarded a two year Fellowship by the Australia Council, in order to focus on study and future projects. This is a wonderful opportunity and I am very grateful to be able to ease up on the touring schedule for a while and allow myself the space to generate new directions. I will still be gigging over this time, but not quite as regularly, so stay tuned for the Gig Listings as they are updated. I will be recording a new album late 2002, and launching my band Drum!

2002 January 13 - 28 was my personal retreat time in India ... 2001 was a big year!
